Unit 4) Homeschool Intro to metallurgy(FE) - Blacksmith Rose build

Overview

students will forge components, assemble them and bring their rose to life with the torch

Homeschool Unit 4) Intro to metallurgy(FE) -Blacksmith rose: Ferrous.

Overview:

We start with going over all of the PPE available (ears, eyes, and hair) , when and how to use them.

We'll review and expound on the twist from unit 2. students will twist up their rose stem to their design.

While students cut apart their petals and leaves, bolts will be welded to the stems for later assembly.( if students are able to weld , they will weld their own).

Texture and dome petal sections demoed. Students to follow.

Leaf veining and shaped in cupping tool demo. students to follow along

Flower asssembly and torch to bring rose to life demo. students will partner up to use torch and hand tools together. Competant students my torch solo as demonstrated.

Brass antiquing method deconstrued. Black heat explained. students may may follow this or not, per their design preference.

Clear coat to contrast forged steel and brass

*As with all units, class will finish with a question and answer period followed by putting away all equipment, shop cleanup, and a recap test to see how much the student retained!

*All you need to bring is a water bottle and positive attitude!

*Proper attire required : long sleeves and pants made from natural fiber(cotton, leather, denim. I have loaner coveralls ,shirts, and aprons available).
