About this event

We are thrilled to present Black Girls Speak: Health Edition under the theme of "Bodily Autonomy." This health care forum is designed exclusively for Black girls ages 14-18, with an inclusive invitation to Latina/Hispanic girls, and transgender girls. Our goal is to empower and equip young ladies with the knowledge and skills to take the lead on their own health and wellness. The event will cover crucial topics such as mental health, sexual transmitted diseases/infections awareness, and preventative care through nutrition-based approaches.

Sessions

Mental Health Session:

  • Interactive and informative discussion
  • Signs of deteriorating mental health
  • Coping mechanisms and local resources

Sexual Transmitted Diseases/Infections Session:

  • General information about STD/I
  • Signs in women, prevention, and what to do if contracted
  • Informing about individual health rights as minors

Nutrition-Based Preventative Care Session:

  • Discussion on generational eating habits
  • Demonstration of healthy snacks
  • Providing fruit and veggies, information on nutrition, and optional smoothies
