I’m new to dance — can I join?

Yes. All levels are welcome — including complete beginners and those returning to movement after time away. No prior experience is required.

If you’d like to start gently, we recommend attending our free Saturday Community Class first.

Where are classes held?

All in-person classes take place at the African Soul Cultural Center - 4302 Crenshaw Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90008.

Once you join, you’ll receive full location details, schedules, and class information by email.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely. We encourage shared experiences and community.

Each participant must complete their own registration if enrolling in a semester class.

What if I miss a class?

We encourage consistent attendance, as each class builds progressively toward choreography and recital.

If you miss a class, reach out to us. We’ll guide you on the best way to stay connected and continue your training.

Can men join?

Yes. The Black Dance Academy is inclusive and open to people of all genders.

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Bare feet or flexible dance shoes are recommended unless otherwise specified for a particular class.

Bring water and come ready to move.

Can I bring my child?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer Tiny Tots Drum and Tiny Tots Dance programs for youth.

Our Saturday Community Class is also open to families.
