Join us in saying, ‘Happy 90th Birthday” to the Stone Fort Museum with games, great music and birthday cake!
On October 16, 1936, the Old Stone Fort Museum opened its doors on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College. An emblem of Spanish Nacogdoches and the Texas Centennial, the Stone Fort Museum has been making history for 90 years!
The party begins at noon with a celebration of another birthday – El Camino Real Day marks the anniversary of the Camino Real’s designation as a National Historic Trail in 2004. The museum is introducing two new board games, Wait, Whose Story is This? and Traveling El Camino Real de los Tejas, created by SFA Public History graduate students. Bring a friend and join the fun!
At 2 p.m., gather under the big tent on the north lawn for music by El Camino Real de Nacogdoches. The band group plays old-time acoustic music using the fiddle, guitars, mandolin, banjos and percussion. Grab a traditional (non-alcoholic) party punch at the museum bar while you munch on peanuts and pretzels. Grab a slice of birthday cake at 3 p.m. and take a seat for more music!
12 - 2 p.m. Play the new Camino Real board games
2 - 4 p.m. Enjoy music by El Camino Real de Nacogdoches
3 p.m. Dig into a Texas Landmark’s birthday cake!
All activities are free and open to the public. Seating will be available but bring your own if you prefer. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, music will move inside and we’ll all get cozy.
