About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Birders increasingly use technological tools to locate birds, share their sightings, and keep track of their observations. The most widely used of these tools is eBird, a website and app that allows users to upload and track their sightings and see what other users have found. It’s also a community science tool that pools all the data, allowing scientists to study trends in bird population trends, migration timing, and more. During this virtual class, learn how to use eBird and other modern technological tools such as field guide apps and automated bird ID apps. Limited to 25.

Gabriel Willow has been a lover of nature his whole life. Raised in rural Maine, he followed his passion for wild places and wildlife - particularly birds - to Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Vermont and southern Mexico, and earned a degree in ecology. In 2003, he found nature in the least likely of places: New York City.

He’s been here ever since, working with the Prospect Park Audubon Center, NYC Audubon, the Bryant Park Corporation, Wave Hill, Lincoln Center, and other organizations and cultural institutions, helping fellow New Yorkers experience the same incredible thrill of discovering interesting wildlife in the midst of the city. His winter harbor ecology tours were called "The Best Thing About Winter in NYC" by Time Out New York , and his self-designed eco-cruises and nature tours have been written up in The New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, and more.
