About this event

Join Teresa & Miles Tuffli (I'm Birding Right Now) for a Birding-by-Ear Walk on June 9, 2024 (Sunday) @ 8:00 - 10:30 AM at the trails near the Sebastopol Community Center & Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail.

No binoculars? No problem! The primary focus of this walk will be listening to the bird soundscape. However, we can provide quality binoculars courtesy of Vortex Optics if you'd like to borrow a pair. Beginners are encouraged -- we want to help you get out and appreciate the bird world. Don't be shy if you've never birded before -- that's what we're here for! (All experience levels are welcome though.)

Though we'll be nearing the end of spring, many birds will still be gracing us with their songs! We’ll slowly meander along the mostly flat trail, winding through open oak savannah, grasslands, riparian woodlands, and marshes, where we’ll listen closely and soak up the beautiful bird sounds surrounding us. Whether you’re eager to learn how to identify the birds vocalizing or you’re simply interested in taking in nature’s wonderful soundscape, this walk is for you! We'll help point out, identify, and discuss the songs and calls of the birds who make the Laguna their home during breeding season.

We’ll meet at the Sebastopol Community Center and cross the seasonal bridge to the Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail, stopping frequently to listen closely. Of course, when any birds make themselves visible we’ll look at them, too!

We guarantee you'll leave with an increased appreciation of the bird life that surrounds us!

Cost: $25/person. (10% of your payment goes back to Sonoma County Regional Parks.) However, we don't want anyone to miss out on the joy of birding due to disposable income concerns, so please contact us directly (imbirdingrightnow@gmail.com) if the cost is an issue for you.

Accessibility Information: Though we’ll be walking slowly, for those with mobility issues, please be aware that we will be on unpaved trails with some slight inclines/declines. Depending on recent rainfall, the trail may be muddy.

Cancellation/Refunds: Cancellations before 48 hours of the event start-time will receive a refund for the ticket price ($25/person). Eventbrite fees are non-refundable.

Weather: This walk will proceed in the event of light rain. We will cancel the event if there is considerable rain in the forecast, and payments will be refunded.
