Birding & Habitat Float

Golden Hills’ mission isto develop and promote sustainable cultural and conservation projects that enhance quality of life and preserve the assets of rural western Iowa. Golden Hills coordinates the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail in collaboration with Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Pottawattamie County Conservation Board, and other partners. Golden Hills RCD

Join Golden Hills RC&D for a fun, educational float on the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail! 
Nic Salick, Wildlife Biologist with Pheasants Forever and experienced birder, will lead the event. Nic provides conservation program delivery services for landowners in Harrison, Monona, and Pottawattamie counties through his work with Pheasants Forever. A Wisconsin native, Salick received his B.S. in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and has worked in several wildlife and habitat organizations. 
Participants will meet near the river access at Botna Bend Park in Hancock at 8:00am on Saturday, July 21. We will then be shuttled to Avoca for a float from Avoca to Hancock. We expect the float to be done by 11:00 am depending on river levels and paddlers’ experience.
The float is open to all ages, including children accompanied by an adult. Participants should have some experience paddling. This event is open to the public and cost is $15 per person. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Please register by July 20 at goldenhillsrcd.org/events. 
We will rent kayaks from Rubber Duck Outfitters. Paddles and life vests will be included, and Rubber Duck will shuttle participants from Hancock to Avoca. If you prefer to use your own canoe or kayak, email lance@goldenhillsrcd.org to make arrangements.
