Several species of beautiful birds pass through the Dayton area; some decked out in bold plumage on their way to breeding grounds in Canada, while others stay to “set up house” in the States. Though small, these birds have often travelled here from hundreds of miles away—some as far as Argentina!
Your tour guide, Jason Antonick, will take you on a slow-paced walk through the grounds and identify different bird species. Bring your binoculars, take a stroll and search our beautiful grounds!
Jason Antonick started birding over 40 years ago as a kid at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. One of his first programs was a birding class at Englewood MetroPark. “I still remember the excitement at the age of 6 years old when a giant Great Blue Heron flew 50 feet overhead! I was hooked, and have been an active birder ever since.”
Don’t forget to check the weather and wear your walking shoes. Cameras and binoculars welcome! All tours require a reservation and there is a suggested $5 donation. All donations support the Woodland Arboretum Foundation which focuses on the restoration, preservation, horticultural and educational projects needed to keep Woodland a cultural resource for Dayton and Ohio.
