Bird Outing & In-Store Presentation

Guided Outing at 8am - Join us for a guided birding outing with special guest Eric DeFonso, the Zen Birder! Eric will lead us in the field, sharing his knowledge of birds, bird identification, and the joy of slowing down and paying attention to the natural world.

*Note - Eventbrite requires a street address so we posted the nearest established address.

Please follow these directions from 10,000 Waves:

-From 10K Waves, continue to drive up NM 475 (Hyde Park Rd) towards the ski basin (about 11 miles)
-You will drive through Hyde Park.
-You will pass Big Tesuque Campground.
-You will pass Aspen Vista.
-You will pass the overlook.
-There will be a visible, distinct parking area on your left, just past the overlook. Pull in here.
-There will be a sign at the trailhead for the Norski Trail
-If you reach the ski basin, you have gone too far.

After the outing, join us in-store for a special presentation with Eric, where he’ll bring his unique perspective on bird watching and connecting with nature.​ Whether you’re new to looking at birds or a seasoned birder, this is a great opportunity to learn, look, listen, and enjoy the birds around us. Join us for one or both events.

Talk Description - Join us for an inside look at the rewarding world of birding by ear. Eric will share his personal journey into ear birding, tips for getting started, and how technology can help, or sometimes hinder, the process. Discover why you don’t need perfect hearing to identify birds by sound and why bird songs and calls are so endlessly fascinating. Along the way, Eric will share real-world examples from birding his local patches and his many adventures abroad as a bird guide and traveler.
