Overview

Come join us for an afternoon of activities to explore our new look and learn more about what makes California's nature so incredible!

Come join staff at the Back Bay Science Center, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and our partners for a fun day of activities.

This event is free and open to the public, welcoming all ages. Please bring water and sunscreen. Here are some of the fun things planned!


Activities for the day:

1-4p Live art workshop with Wildlife Jewels

1-4p Native plant nursery tours every 30 min

3p Live aquarium animal feeding


Activity Booths to Explore:

Watershed Warrior: Orange County Coast Keeper

Spill some food dye and learn where it goes in the watershed!


CDFW Law Enforcement: Oil Spill Prevention Team and NRVP

A table of activities to gets hands on in collecting oil and keeping our waterways safe!


Orange County Public Health

How do we know that our beaches our safe to swim? Our onsite water quality lab teach you how to test the water for public safety!


Orange Coast College Aquariums

Explore the aquarium animals at the Back Bay Science Center and learn about the incredible diversity of aquariums hosted and Orange County College that you can visit for free!


Wildlife Jewels

California Wildlife is the jewel of California and this organization works to blend art and conservation.


Hunter Education

Did you know there’s hunting in Southern California and our hunting community is some of our strongest advocated for conservation? Come learn more about the effort our volunteers make in educating the public about how to hunt safely.


Newport Bay Conservancy

Get hands on with the Bay’s Native Plants and learn about the work that Newport Bay Conservancy is doing in Big Canyon!


Orange Coast College Planetarium

Explore the diversity of space with OCC’s high powered telescopes and learn about the incredible facility that is so close!



CDFW Fishing in the City (there will be NO fishing)

Learn to cast! Tour the catch of the day and get hands on with what’s beneath the surface of the Bay!


Biodiversity, iNaturalist, CA 30X30 plus many more!!!

What is Biodiversity? How does the iNaturalist App help conservation?

Learn to use binoculars and learn about the Pacific Flyway

Download iNaturalist before arriving. Sign up for the Find 30 Species Challenge and if you can find 15 species before you leave! *Prizes for youth only

Join on a walk through the nursery for an educational tour of the native species being grown! Tours will be hosted every 30 minutes.
