This is a summer professional development workshop meant to teach you how to use emerging synthetic biology for teaching and learning. It is a collaboration between The University of Texas at El Paso and The BioBuilder Educational Foundation and will be hosted at Fab Lab El Paso. The workshop will give you hands on opportunities to carry out biomaking for teaching and learning. We will also practice using enabling technologies like synthetic biology to genetically alter cells to make things like (1) banana-smells from bacteria, (2) vitamin-producing yeast to bake bread, (3) microbes that produce pigments for making art, and so much more. We will show strategies for using this in classroom settings or in your personal educational pursuits.DATES:The workshop dates are from Monday (5th of July, 2021) through Friday (9th of July, 2021), each day from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
