Event Information
About this event
Please join us for an evening of drinks, conversation, and collaboration. Together with interactive artist Marpi, The Midway Gallery started a series that we call our Binary Salons. Our Binary Salons are a place where artists who are working at the intersection of art + technology can come together to share ideas and practices. These Salons are for artists and by artists.
On Tuesday, July 16 @ 6pm will feature presentations by Jiabao Li and Victoria Scott, both artists who use technologies to engage audiences in unique and thoughtful ways, taking participation and immersion to new levels.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
JIABAO LI works at the intersection of emerging technology, art and design. Her work opens questions about technology's influence on human perception, identity, and emotion. Her research-based projects range from wearables, projections, drones, installations to scientific experiments. She holds a Master of Design in Technology degree with Distinction from Harvard GSD.
Jiabao's work has been featured in Domus, TechCrunch, Yahoo, CCTV, Yanko Design, and The National. Her work has been shown in Milan Design Week, Dubai Design Week, ISEA, SIGGRAPH, CHI, AR in Action, and PRIMER. She is the winner of iF Design Award, Future Cities Contest, ISWC Design Award, and Harvard Best Thesis Award.
VICTORIA SCOTT is a Canadian-born educator and visual artist, mainly a sculptor, creating material and digital installations based on imaginary objects and spaces.
As an artist/developer, Victoria has just founded Imaginary Objects, her own VR/AR studio based in San Francisco. Since 2016, she has developed several experimental interactive VR art environments, and a commercial meditation app, as a VR artist in residence at Pioneer Works Cultural Centre (Brooklyn), Oregon Story Board (Portland) and this fall in London at the Delfina Foundation Residency.
For her recent projects, she is focused on understanding intimacy, trauma and presence — using VR to create affective containers that can hold emotional states, visually and with sound, so that these feelings can be safely confronted. She plans to develop and release both mobile experiences and room-scale interactive art installations that give participants a full range of physical freedom and agency.
She has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and has exhibited in galleries, and museums throughout North America and Europe. For over a decade she has taught experimental digital media at several art colleges, including; SAIC, California College of the Arts (CCA), San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) and currently SF State University (SFSU).
