About this event

This course is intended for students with little to no prior bike maintenance or repair experience, and is intended as a platform for you to gain the foundational knowledge necessary to keep your bike riding smoothly and safely.

This course consists of two hour and a half class sessions. This course covers: bike anatomy; wheel, tire, and tube removal; chain maintenance ; essential troubleshooting techniques with cable actuated brake and shifting systems.

Bring your bike to work on and wear clothes you won’t mind getting dirty! The Fix-A-Flat portion of this course only covers tubed tires.

Please note the class is two weekly sessions. The date you register is the first session date and the next session will happen one week apart at the same time and location as the first.

Frequently asked questions

I have some bike knowledge, but I'm unsure what class to sign up for?

I recommend taking the Bike Maintenance 101 if you feel uncomfortable with the following: taking your wheels off your bike and/or fixing a flat. You can take the Repair Fundamentals without our 101 class, but it's typically a great refresher for anyone feeling rusty on maintenance.

Can I bring my bike with Hydraulic Brakes?

You can. Our intro to shifting and brake adjustments mainly talks about cable actuated, but we can give you few pointers on the maintenance of your bike’s brakes.

If I can’t attend a session, can I be refunded or take another session from a different class?

We do not issue refunds for singular sessions, whether missed or can’t be attended. We also do not reschedule singular sessions. A full refund can be requested 7 days before the first session. You can transfer to another class up until 1 day before the first session. Please contact us for questions.

Do you have an age limit for this class?

Yes, we require a parent or guardian to be with a student who is 15 years old or younger. A registration slot is for one repair stand meaning the guardian does not need to buy another slot if they work on the same bike.

What is the parking situation near the shop?

There is a parking behind the building. There is also street parking in front. There are also metro transit stops on Lake and Minnehaha and the Lake and Hiawatha LRT stop is an 8-10min walk away.

How do I transfer my registration to another date or different class?

Follow Eventbrites Help Center instructions at www.eventbrite.com/help . Please keep in mind that we do have a $5 transfer fee, and if the class was purchased using a time limited promo you will be asked to pay the difference. If you have any other questions or concerns, please email us.

What do you mean by “Tubed Tires Only”?

Most bicycles have an inner tube installed within the tire. But some bikes have their tires setup tubeless, meaning there’s no tubes but instead free floating sealant. We do not cover how to fix a flat in a tubeless set up. If you’re unsure what your bike is, send us a pic of your wheels.

Can I bring my E-Bike?

No, this location does not have repair stands for bikes that are extremely heavy. We would not recommend bringing your e-bike, unless you can easily lift its entire weight up to your chest for a few minutes unassisted.
