Big Tree Hike

Astonishing biodiversity exists in Congaree National Park, the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States.  Waters from the Congaree and Wateree Rivers sweep through the floodplain, carrying nutrients and sediments that nourish and rejuvenate this ecosystem and support the growth of national and state champion trees.

Join Volunteer Park Naturalist John Cely for a guided hike to some of the park's big trees!* Things To Know *All participants must have a reservation in order to join the guided hike. This guided hike is limited to a maximum of 25 participants.Pets are not allowed on hike, service animals are welcome. This hike will last approximately 3 hours. Participants should wear or bring clothing that is appropriate for the day's forecasted conditions and temperature.This hike goes off trail and covers up to 5 miles total.Mask may be required inside federal buildings. Please bring a mask with you if you plan on visiting our bookstore and park restrooms. This program could be cancelled due to flooding in the park or weather.
