In this panel we’ll dive deeper into discussions happening in the yoga space. We will discuss cultural appropriation vs. appreciation, race and gender, body inclusivity, and other important topics. Teachers will have an opportunity to ask questions and will leave with actionable steps to make their classes more inclusive and welcoming.Aishatu Yusuf - Moderator and Teacher Trainer: Aishatu is an E-RYT and executive leader in social justice reform based in Oakland, CA. She has designed, evaluated, and implemented programs across the United States, within Indigenous and native populations, and internationally.Aishatu has taught at yoga studios across the nation, and firmly believes all teacher trainings should prioritize creating learning spaces that educate teachers on the diversity of identities, ideas, and experiences of all people.Supreet Kaur - Yoga Teacher : Supreet is a registered yoga teacher and speech-language pathologist based in Oakland, CA. She has been practicing yoga for 10 years and teaching for one. She believes DEI is essential in yoga because communities of color have largely been ignored in the yoga industry due to the westernization of the practice. She is passionate about creating a community where people of all races, sexual orientations, and body types can meaningfully connect and thrive in the practice. In addition to teaching yoga, she works as a speech-language pathologist for Oakland Unified School District. Marsha D. Banks-Harold -Yoga Therapist &amp; Studio Owner: Marsha D. Banks-Harold is the owner and director of PIES Fitness Holistic Yoga Therapy and yoga teacher training programs, certified yoga therapist, and creator of My Body Don’t Bend That Way Yoga, based in Alexandria, VA. She has been practicing yoga for 14 years, and believes DEI is essential in yoga because all beings deserve to feel welcome, seen, valued, and heard. In addition to teaching yoga, she is an experienced executive engineering leader, author, speaker, and workshop leader.
