BEYOND THE SCREEN: Creative Learning with AI (Online Course)

SESSION 1 JULY 8, 2025: AI LITERACY

AI literacy for educators involves understanding how AI technologies function, how they can enhance teaching, and how to address the ethical and societal issues they raise. As AI becomes more integrated into classrooms and education systems, it’s crucial for educators to be able to guide students in using these tools responsibly and creatively. By fostering AI literacy, educators can ensure they’re preparing students for a future where critical thinking about technology is essential, while maintaining a balanced, human-centered approach to learning. We will balanced a conceptual and hands-on approach to exploring and understanding AI Literacy with a clear emphasis on the connection between AI Literacy and the classroom.

SESSION 2 JULY 15, 2025: AI USE SPECTRUM AND MEANINGFUL USE

The AI Use Spectrum is designed to presented a more nuanced approach to understanding the role and potential use cases for AI in education. The use spectrum can help create meaningful discussion about how AI can be used to preserve and enhance original human thought. The goal of the use spectrum is to not promote or disallow one specific use case, but to rather create an entry point for meaningful conversations with educators and students. The Kulowiec Group's AI Use Spectrum will act as the foundation for the second session and will allow participants to create and redesign meaningful use cases for both educator and student use.

SESSION 3 JULY 22, 2025: CREATING CUSTOM CHATBOTS

Creating custom chatbots allows educators (and potentially students) to apply their knowledge in a hands-on, interactive way, transforming abstract concepts into real-world applications. Through the lens of critical problem solving, participants will be guilded through a process of creaitng their own custom solution to an existing classroom challenge via a custom GenAI chatbot. This process encourages deeper understanding by requiring creators to break down complex topics into simple, understandable dialogues, demonstrating their mastery of the subject and the intended interaction for the end user. It's a lot of fun and a lot of learning all at once.
