The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Portland State University presents Beyond the Periphery: 2025 BFA/MFA Showcase, an exhibition of work by the 2025 graduates of the BFA in Art Practice and MFA in Contemporary Art Practice (Art + Social Practice) in the Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design. The exhibition will run from May 15 to June 7, 2025, with a public reception on Thursday, May 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the JSMA at PSU. 

The exhibition will feature the work of 33 students, encompassing a range of media, including photography, painting, sculpture, performance, mixed-media installations, textiles, and publications. In the introduction to the exhibition catalog, artist V. Maldonado highlights community sentiment and camaraderie as a connecting bridge between individual projects and an expansive group exhibition. They reflect, "The collective creativity and imagination of the participating artists included in this exhibition articulate a vision of the future built around their human values and chosen families. There exists in these artists a spirit of interconnection and lifelong learning with many projects utilizing collaborative approaches to making and communication."

During the exhibition run, additional BFA and MFA student art installations will be on view in the Art Building AB and MK Galleries (2000 SW 5th Avenue). Gallery talks by exhibiting students will be held at JSMA at PSU throughout the exhibition during the following times:

Free Admission:

Located in the heart of the PSU Campus, the visitor entrance is on the first floor of in Fariborz Maseeh Hall (FMH 110).

Admission is free for all visitors.

Tickets:

JSMA at PSU uses Eventbrite as a tool to anticipate attendance. If an event is listed at capacity, walk-in visitors are still encouraged as seating may become available due to last-minute cancellations.

Parking:
