Description

SMPTE is the pre-eminent organization that defines the standards for the technology used in the creation of movies and television.

Productions are moving beyond well-known techniques such as storyboards, animatics and previs and adopting new technology from the gaming industry such as real-time visualization. This paradigm shift has come about due to the creation of game development engines by Unity 3D and Epic Games with the Unreal Engine. These real-time game engines and software applications that can exploit the rendering power of these systems are providing real-time visualization for directors and storytellers during production.

At the February SMPTE Hollywood meeting we’ll have the experts discuss how game engines are ‘game changers’ in the pre and post production software development of advanced tools such as Lightcraft’s Halide, Faceware’s Live as well as Digital Mike utilizing the Unreal Engine.

Agenda:

  • 6:30 PM Reception and Meet and Greet

  • 7:30 PM Opening remarks by SMPTE Hollywood Chair – Jim DeFilippis

  • 7:45 PM Introduction to the evening event and host David Morin from Epic Games – Brian Gaffney

  • 8:00 PM Retrospective of the Unreal Engine at Epic Games and the Current “State of the Art” of the Unreal Engine by David Morin. Content examples to be played with introduction of Unreal Engine partners who have applications and practical demos in TV and Cinema Productions.

  • 9:00 PM Panel discussion and Q&A with Halide/Lightcraft, Faceware Live, “Digital Mike” moderated by David Morin, Head, Epic Games Los Angeles Lab

  • 9:30 PM Wrap up of event.

NOTE: Space is limited to 150 attendees. Late arrivals unfortunately cannot be accommodated. Each person must register in their own name.

As always, SMPTE meetings are free and open to all, membership not required.
