The two-day Beyond Diversity 1 training introduces participants to the internationally-renowned Protocol for Courageous Conversation ® and equips participants with the tools needed to transform beliefs and behaviors into results that equip people of all races to achieve their most empowered lives. It is a compassionate curriculum to build community, launch innovation, and navigate the predictable pitfalls of interracial, multicultural conversations about race.
Powerful and personally transforming this two-day experience helps leaders, employees, and organizations understand the impact of race on their lives, their work, and their overall growth. Interactive and stirring exercises strengthen participants’ critical consciousness of race and lead them to investigate the role that racism plays in institutionalizing achievement disparities.
More importantly it models and teaches a protocol for discussing race in ways that are productive, insightful, and generative. After the training, participants will be equipped with the knowledge, skill, will, and capacity to address important issues, and broaden the path of entry for leadership in their industry.
Courageous Conversation Global Foundation Executive Director Madame Athena Chang will facilitate the training. Inspired by her love for community and healing, Madame Athena Chang’s life’s work has centered around wellness, equity, and racial healing. Madame received her Master’s in International Educational Development with a specialization in Health from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. In 2006, Madame Chang emigrated to the island of St. Lucia where she consulted with the United Nation’s health agency, the Pan American Health Organization, on the Health Promoting Schools Project, an initiative that aimed to transform schools into healthier environments.
