Female artists of Los Angeles explore identity, biculturalism and issues of migration in group show, “Between Worlds”.

The three exhibiting artists - Josie Brown (fiber art), Jillian Nalty (figurative drawing), and Angi Tianzhu (painting) - are bicultural and two are relatively new migrants to the United States. The theme of “Between Worlds” therefore seemed fitting for the trio who have the experience of more than one culture and more than one place they call home.The pop-up group show will take place at Leiman Space in Chinatown, Los Angeles, December 14. Josie Brown from New Zealand, grew up in a family of makers - her Maori father was a carpenter and Hong Kong born mother a quilter - Brown herself a fiber artist and soft sculpturalist. The two mediums of wood and textile converging in these art forms, where she explores more contemporary themes such as environmentalism, provenance and opposing cultural forces. greyskies.co | @greyskies.co

Jillian Nalty is an Australian-born artist who has for the last five years, called Los Angeles home. Her work explores themes of family, relationships, sex, and reproduction. In her large scale figurative drawings, each piece is broken down into shades of light, texture, and form using a repetitive process of hand-drawing tiny circles. Based in Los Angeles, Angi Tianzhu is a multimedia artist originally from Oregon. Born to a Chinese-American mother and a father of Southern US heritage, she began her journey in fine arts early; taught by her artist parents. Her work - often delivered with dry humor - focuses on telling the truth, looking at inward-outward societal reflection, and race and gender identity.angitianzhu.art | @AngiTianzhuArt
