BETWEEN SILENCE AND LIGHT

Founded in 2009 by Trilla Ray-Carter, Kansas City Baroque Consortium is Kansas City's professional period ensemble. Specializing in the performance of early music on original or replicas of original instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries, KC Baroque is dedicated to promoting the performance, understanding, and appreciation of Baroque music and art forms from all historical periods and genres. Join us for KC Baroque's very special summer series celebrating women of note from the Baroque era, and a world premiere by Ingrid Stölzel.

CONCERT I • MUSIC AND ARCHITECTURE
Saturday, June 24, 7:30 p.m.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 40th &  Main
John Lobell, architect, leads us on an exploration of the language of architecture featuring the work of Louis Kahn, and other great architects of the world. Music of the Baroque era offers a reflection of architecture in structure, rhythm and form and provides an opportunity to connect these art forms, even across eras.  Each concert will premiere a new work by composer Ian Coleman, commissioned specifically for this series inspired by BETWEEN SILENCE AND LIGHT.
CONCERT II • MUSIC, WORD AND ART
Friday, July 14, 7:30 p.m
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 40th &  Main
Dr. Ron Witzke, speaker and baritone soloist discusses silence and the search for beauty. The art of Makoto Fujimura will be explored in relationship to his journey of artistic expression inspired by the novel, SILENCE, by Shūsaku Endō. The second of Ian Coleman’s newly commissioned works will be premiered by KC Baroque, along with an offering of Baroque works of the masters.
CONCERT III • MUSIC AND DANCE
FRIDAY, August 11, 7:30 p.m
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 40th &  Main
No two art forms are more intrinsically connected than dance and music, each informing and drawing inspiration from the other. Jennifer Owen and members of the Owen/Cox Dance Group join KC Baroque in this concert dedicated to dance which will premiere the third work of Ian Coleman's Between Silence and Light series, and celebrates the rich influence of music and dance!
