Between Gestures: Master Class with Pol Pi

This master class is part of Between Gestures: a 10 day festival connecting Chicago to Europe through performance and dance.

<h2>About the Master Class</h2><p>This master class is free and open to any artist interested in movement. Space is limited, so please only register if you are planning to attend. Once all slots are filled, we will offer wait list tickets, which do not guarantee a spot in the master class.</p><p>If you are a student of SAIC or Columbia College, please contact the dance department for registration.</p><h3>Searching for one's dance in someone else's dance </h3><p>Pol Pi will share with the students his practices that accompanied his work related to the idea of "searching for one's dance in someone else's dance", i.e. the activation of a physical imaginary different from one's own habits activated by others; an attempt to be shaped by otherness, whether it is people sharing space with us or for example by dances coming to us from the past. It will also be to question together of the limits all this.</p><h2>About the Artist</h2><p>Brazilian choreographic artist living in France, Pol Pi is interested in a broader understanding of the choreographic field, working around questions about memory and temporality, language, and notions of archive and translation in dance, with a particular interest for in situ performances. A graduate in music at the University of Campinas (Brazil), from 2013 to 2015 Pol Pi followed the choreographic master ex.erce in Montpellier and was a performer for Clarissa Sacchelli, Eszter Salamon, Latifa Laabissi / Nadia Lauro, Pauline Simon, Aude Lachaise and Anna Anderegg. Since 2010, he develops his own choreographic projects, presented in several cities and festivals in Brazil. He also directed 5 editions of the Free to Fall São Paulo project (exquisite artistic night) and worked as a professional musician for more than 10 years. In France, Pol Pi created the solo ECCE (H)OMO (March 2017) and ALEXANDRE (May 2018), presented at the Centre national de la danse, Festival Montpellier Danse, Musée de la Danse, Festival NEXT/Espace Pasolini, PACT Zollverein, La Raffinerie/Charleroi Danse, Vivat la Danse and Uzès Danse, among others.</p><h2>About Between Gestures</h2><p>Between October 24 and November 02, 2019, the Cultural Service of the Consulate of France in Chicago and the Goethe-Institut Chicago come together to celebrate and explore dance and performance in Europe, its context and its history, in partnership with multiple Chicago venues and organizations. Two European cultural institutions, the Centre national de la Danse in Pantin, France, as part of Caravane, a mobile CN D, and PACT Zollverein in Essen, Germany, will join to create a multifaceted program with performances, workshops, conversations, screenings and a party!</p><h3><a href="http://www.betweengestures.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">betweengestures.org</a></h3><p></p>
