Get ready for the Get Down— a celebration of solidarity hosted by Berkeley Rep and the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD)! Start the evening in style with a vibrant performance from Oakland-based country and Americana singer-songwriter Miko Marks, discover offerings from Black and Brown-owned businesses, and enjoy delicious light bites alongside tastings from Theopolis Vineyards in our Narsai M. David Courtyard—all before the 8pm showing of Mexodus, a hip-hop musical that narrates the lesser-known story of the Underground Railroad leading south into Mexico. Keep the energy going and join us after the show at Michael's Second Act Bar and get down with DJ Wonway Posibul. A selection of books will be available for purchase throughout the evening by Revolution Books. Doors open at 6:45pm. Mexodus & its events are sponsored in part by The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation.

About Mexodus

History meets hip-hop in Mexodus, an electrifying live-looping musical, composed in real-time by multitalented writer/performers Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson. Mexodus explores the often-untold stories of the Underground Railroad that led south into Mexico. Don’t miss this groundbreaking, theatrical experience of resilience and resistance, celebrating the power of Black and Brown solidarity.

About Miko Marks

13 years after her last album, Miko Marks, re-emerged stronger than ever with "Our Country" (March 2021 via Redtone Records). She had all but given up on her career aspirations after she was effectively told by Nashville executives that her music was good, but she wouldn't sell. Fast forward thirteen years later - she crafted a beautiful album that received nods from NPR, Rolling Stone, NY Times, WSJ and more. Miko was named to the 2022 Class of CMT’s Next Women of Country & participated in the first Equal Access program with mTheory. On October 14, 2022 Miko released her widely anticipated album “Feel Like Going Home” and made her Grand Ole Opry debut on the same day. The album landed on several year-end "best-of" lists including Rolling Stone, NPR, Paper, Garden & Gun, among others. In March of 2023, she was included in the American Currents exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville which was up for the entire year.
