Beloved Clara

Highgate Has Heart is a community campaign formed in North London in mid-2016 in response to the refugee crisis. Inspired and co-founded by actress Juliet Stevenson, it was set up by local families to help those arriving here most in need - from unaccompanied child refugees to vulnerable adults - by raising funds and generating tangible support for the work of four pivotal, London-based registered charities on our doorstep: Safe Passage, Help Refugees,the Islington Refugee Centre, and Young Roots. Proceeds from this performance of  'Beloved Clara' will support Young Roots' core work in helping child refugees to build new lives here in the UK. Highgate Has Heart

Stars Juliet Stevenson and Samuel West join top concert pianist Lucy Parham to tell the passionate, tragic, and volatile relationship of renowned musician Clara, her husband the composer Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. In this 200th year of Clara's birth, a compelling story is unveiled through their music and readings from the Schumanns' frank, jointly-written marriage diaries, in a powerful Composer Portrait created by Lucy Parham.  This peformance is arranged, through Highgate Has Heart, in aid of refugee charity Young Roots (charity no.1139685). Tickets include a welcome drink, and canapes. There will be a cash bar, chances to meet the cast, and a raffle.  
Juliet Stevenson writes: ‘Young Roots supports young lone refugees aged 15 to 25, many of whom arrive at its doors destitute and desperate. YR helps them with housing, food, education, English language learning, legal case work, psychological support, social activities and more. It’s all done on a tight budget, with every penny accounted for, so your support through enjoying ‘Beloved Clara’ is worth volumes to them. I’ve visited YR many times and am blown away by their ethos, efficiency, compassion, ingenuity, dedication and care.’
