Being Human

Jackie Cordova, one of the original owners of Café Calacas, has been deeply involved in the City of Santa Ana's Arts and Culture scene for  many years. In 2005, the Cordovas opened their first Calacas gift shop in the Bristol Marketplace. They were interested in holding a Day of the Dead event, and thus began the collaboration with El Centro Cultural de Mexico.You  may know through her contributions to affirming Latino Culture and Art in Santa Ana she has worked on putting out a line of culture clothing, Curios,Dia de los Muertos Dayof the dead organizing which brings over 40,000 people into Santa Ana each year. She has worked on a Chicano clothing line called Kid guayavera and making Guayabera Tshirts,  She has brought to us Mexican Folk Art in Lucha Masks.Today you can find Jackie working with youth at the Heritage Museum’s Gospel Swamp Farm. Working with OG and contributing weekly to making good, healty, organically grown food accessible to residents at the Sunday Farmers Market Downtown.
