The evening will feature three short documentaries about music, set in Beijing.
The event will screen three short documentaries based in Beijing and linked by the theme of music. Shown together, the films highlight the diversity of contemporary Chinese life through deeply human, shared experiences.
Guests are invited to a welcome reception with food and drink. Following the screening, independent filmmaker Khalid Ali will join Dr. Chuen-Fung Wong, ethnomusicologist and Director of Asian Studies at Macalaster College, for a discussion and live audience Q&A. The director's extensive experience filming in China and Dr. Wong's expertise in musical modernity and cultural revival are hoped to inspire rich insights into regional identity, cultural expression through music, and the filmmaking process in contemporary China.
