Event description
This is an inquiry based & discussion focused course, centered on the basics of raising sheep in the PNW using pasture based systems.

About this Event

*Because of Covid-19, class sizes have been cut in half and we are offering single course tickets only. The farm entity ticketing option will return once the risk of Covid-19 has been minimized. We will not require attendees to wear masks because it makes communication challenging however we do ask that if you are feeling ill with possible coronovirus symptoms that you contact us immediately to choose an alternate course date or discuss alternative course options. The gathering space for the class is outside (weather permitting) and will be set up to allow for appropriate physical distancing; we ask that potential attendees determine their comfort and potential risk level in this type of situation before registering for the class as we will not offer refunds for this class if you change your mind about attending and are healthy. We are doing everything within our power at the farm to keep things clean and safe and have been healthy throughout this pandemic. Know that this is a farm and there is no absolute way to disinfect everything. Please contact us with any questions about attending the course.*

This class is a full-day, inquiry based and discussion focused hands-on educational opportunity, centered on the basics of raising a variety of sheep breeds in our region using regenerative agricultural practices. We cover a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to choosing the right sheep breed for your farm, basic sheep handling, housing, fencing, nutrition, health and healthcare basics; what managed grazing looks like and developing your own pasture based management program; connecting with a mentor and community resources; value-added sheep products and marketing.

Lambing and breeding are not covered in this class, we offer separate educational opportunities that center on these topics.

We ask that you bring a lunch and beverage, comfortable chair for sitting outdoors, and note taking supplies. Come dressed appropriately for an outdoor, farm-centered workshop, in clean clothing and properly disinfected close toed shoes.

A packet of basic information and list of resources will be provided the day of the course.

Need based scholarships are available for this course. Please contact the farm for more information.
