About this event

In this intro class will focus on creating the indigo vat using NATURAL INDIGO, while talking about cultural significance around the world and the history of the process. 5 categories of traditional Japanese dyeing techniques will be shown including Suji, Itajime, Tegumo, Ne-Maki and Arashi, along with other "tie dye" methods you will find in Africa and India. Pick the few you're drawn to and have fun! Each student will get to dye minimally 3 pieces.

All materials provided, but students are welcome to bring their own projects. All students receive 3 bandana (or equivalent) each.

Organized by

"Better Than Jam" is the textile printing and fashion line of owner Karin Persan, since 2007. The newest space, post Covid, of the same name is now at 10 Grattan Street. There is a small showroom with remnants of the boutique that ran 10+ years that hosted handmade creations of local designers. However the space now is mainly the large private studio of the creator, where screenprinting and textile dyeing occurs. You will be welcomed into the artist's creation space! A little different for returning students but still great and lucky to have.
