CLASS STRUCTURE
The first classes will begin with explaining the process of writing comedy and exploring how to find insights to develop into material and exploit each individual’s experience and imagination to craft jokes. We will then move on to the crafting process where we will take the rough material gathered during the first few weeks and work towards a five-minute set. Although comics can still generate new material, the process of pitching to improve the core set will become more intense. Pitching is where a piece of material is expanded and heightened to enhance the comedy. All students will get this input from each other as well as the teachers. The class members are encouraged to buddy up and work together during the week, as directed by the teachers. After the comics have performed in class, there will be feedback sessions with the teachers and other students. By the sixth week, we will be perfecting the 5-minute sets ready to perform in the end-of-term showcase!
