Intro to Birding


We'll begin with going over educational materials, then move onto how to use binoculars, ID guides, including some practice. Afterwards we'll begin our hike!

We'll meet outside Bear Mtn. Inn. We'll introduce a few key concepts, hand out binoculars, ID books, then begin our walk around Hessian Lake, where we'll begin going through the process of finding and IDing birds.

Can I bring my own binoculars?

Of course! While some things may differ between the binoculars we provide and your own, the principles are the same.

My child is interested in the event, can I bring them?

You may! however please note that in addition to starting early, the event will involve hiking while concurrently learning lots of information. It is also important to be reasonably quiet which may be difficult for younger children to sustain for an hour or more.
