Beekeeping Workshops
Overview

Join us for full-day workshops as we introduce key beekeeping concepts through instruction and experiential learning opportunities!

Join us at Durham College Whitby Campus Urban Farm for a series of three hands-on beekeeping workshops!

To participate in the sessions, you must bring your own personal safety equipment including the following:

  • Beekeeper gloves and veil
  • Hive tool
  • Covered shoes, long pants with thick material, jacket or thick long sleeve shirt.


HONEY HARVESTING

Saturday July 18, 2026

Join us for a fun and educational afternoon where you'll learn all about the sweet art of harvesting honey. Our experienced beekeeper will guide you through the process from start to finish. You'll get hands-on experience working with the bees and extracting honey from the hives. Don't miss this chance to connect with nature and taste the fruits of your labour. Whether you're a seasoned beekeeper or just curious about the world of bees, this workshop is perfect for anyone interested in the fascinating world of beekeeping.

MITE TREATMENT & WINTER PREP

Saturday September 12, 2026

As seasons start to change preparing your hives for winter can seem like an enormous task. Proper fall management can make the difference between strong, healthy colonies in the spring and significant winter losses. This workshop will provide practical guidance and seasonal best practices to help your bees successfully navigate the colder months.

  • how to treat your bees going into winter for mites
  • what types of treatments are recommended for colder temperatures
  • when and how to combine weaker colonies
  • autumn and winter feeding
  • winter equipment and how to wrap and insulate your hives
  • autumn/winter/ early spring beekeeping duties and what to expect from your bees during these times
