About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Learn from our beekeeper about "splitting" or, the process of turning one healthy, active bee hive into two. This event is catered to beekeeping beginners, and will involve a hands-on component where we will explore Morven Kitchen Garden's bee hives. Protective clothing will be provided, although loose-fitting, long-sleeved clothing, as well as closed-toe, non-mesh shoes are reccommended. Our bees are docile under most circumstances, however, those with severe allergies or an unknown reactions to bee stings should be advised. All ticket proceeds go to supporting the Morven Sustainability Lab. If our ticket price would constitute financial hardship, email morvenkitchengarden@virginia.edu to organize a reduced rate.
