Description

Help put Beaudesert on the Map!

Saturday 10th February 2018, 09:00-14:00

OpenStreetMap is a collaboratively built free map of the world, with simple wiki-like editing; think ‘Wikipedia’, but for maps. The result is highly detailed digital maps, created and edited by local communities, that are free to reproduce without the normal commercial restrictions. It's a fun project to get involved with; you'll discover how maps are made and uncover the geographical secrets of your neighbourhood.

Volunteers from all around SEQ have already begun mapping the roads, footpaths and cycleways across around Beaudesert, but now we need your help to improve our map by adding street and building details and amenities such as restaurants, parks, playgrounds and shops.

Agenda

Saturday 10th February 2018

09:00-09:30: Meet at Beaudesert Cafe for breakfast, assign areas to survey

09:30-12:30: Survey assigned areas in groups

12:30-14:00: Meet back at Council Building for free lunch and OpenStreetMap editing
(bring laptop if you can)

You don’t need anything special to survey your area, just a paper and pencil will do. If you can, please bring a laptop (ideally with a mouse) to the after-event and we’ll teach you how to put your area directly into OpenStreetMap! If you can’t or won’t be bringing your laptop, volunteers will be happy to demonstrate the process on their devices so you can finish at home.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask David Dean through email at ddean@ieee.org. If you can’t find us on the day, please text me on 0407 151 912, and we’ll find each other.
