Workshop on Synchrotron Analytical Methods for the Georgia Tech Community

Launched in June 2013, the Institute for Materials represents a community of nearly 200 faculty members conducting materials-related research and providing leadership in discovery and development of materials that address 21st century grand challenges. In addition, IMat seeks to promote and conduct research, development, and testing in materials data science and informatics.

The Institute for Materials will host a one and a half workshop to showcase synchrotron-enabled analytical methods, educate the community on how to gain access to them, and train them on effective experimental design, basics data processing and data interpretation. The particular focus will be on core-hole spectroscopic methods using soft to hard x-rays, particularly x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and the sub-techniques (XANES, EXAFS and NEXAFS). Other related methods that will be discussed will include mean-free-path tuned XPS, XES and ARPES.
