BUILDING BETTER COMMUNITIES HOSTS ANNUAL GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION SUMMIT

Columbia, SC – Building Better Communities (BBC) is proud to announce its Annual Gun Violence Prevention Summit, a three-day event dedicated to addressing and combating gun violence in our communities. The summit will be held from July 26 to July 28, 2024, at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Stavros Auditorium and various other locations in Columbia, SC.

Since its inception in 2010, Building Better Communities has been a leading force in promoting racial equality and community safety. The organization’s efforts have garnered national recognition, including the FBI’s Director Community Leadership Award and the Jefferson Award.

This year's summit will feature a diverse lineup of speakers, workshops, and community events aimed at fostering dialogue and developing actionable solutions to reduce gun violence. Highlights of the summit include:

  • Friday, July 26: Youth Summit at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Stavros Auditorium, starting at 7:00 PM. This session is designed to engage young people in meaningful conversations about gun violence and its impact on their lives.
  • Saturday, July 27: Main Event at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Stavros Auditorium, starting at Noon. The day will begin with a community event in the 29223 zip code, bringing together residents, local organizations, and law enforcement to discuss strategies for prevention and collaboration.
  • Sunday, July 28: Church Service at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, focusing on healing and unity within the community.

We are honored to have several distinguished guests and speakers, including Sheriff Leon Lott of the Richland County Sheriff's Department and Mayor Daniel Rickenmann of Columbia, who will share their insights and experiences in promoting community safety and bridging the gap between law enforcement and the public.

Building Better Communities has partnered with several prominent organizations and community leaders for this event, including the Richland County Sheriff's Department, Columbia Police Department, Richland County Solicitor’s Office, The Columbia Mayor’s Office, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Allied Air, and MOMS, among others.

“We believe that by working together, we can create safer, healthier communities for everyone,” said Perry Bradley, President and Founder of Building Better Communities. “This summit is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to prevent gun violence and promote equality.”
