Batik Arts Workshop (Hollywood, FL)

Teratai Malaysia was born out of Munirah Rimer's desire to share her Malaysian culture and explore the world of batik.Today, Munirah teaches batik painting to students at her pop-up studio in Little River neighborhood of Miami as well as various venues (art studios, retirement communities, offices, private homes) primarily in South Florida - including Miami, Broward, and the Palm Beaches.She is also able to share that passion for batik beyond South Florida through her batik art painting kits Each kit is handmade by Munirah and contains everything needed for a student to learn and enjoy batik painting. Batik art painting kits are available directly through Munirah as well as through the Teratai Malaysia website and can be shipped anywhere.Students of all ages find Munirah's teaching and kits meditative and therapeutic in addition to enjoyable and fun.Munirah and her partner, Jonathan Ogden, continue to add to their knowledge of the batik craft by travelling throughout the world meeting and learning from masters in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, and more.

This 3 hour workshop is partly Artsy, partly Foodie and majorly Social! The artsy part gives you a chance to explore, get creative, unleash your inner Artist by working with dye paints on a pre-waxed (resist), pre-stretched 12x12 canvas! You will be creating your own beautiful BATIK piece to bring home. 
What is BATIK? ... In Indonesia or Malaysia, Batik is part of an ancient tradition. The word batik originates from the Indonesian 'tik'... Which means to DOT ... Munirah will guide the painting session & you will learn the technique to paint batik using different color dyes (7-9pm)
The second part is for you to enjoy a full hour (6-7pm) of tastings of Malaysian cuisine & mingling. So, Bring your cool crew for a new cultural appreciation -- Make it a happy hour thing!
