Overview

Learn the basic safety and operations for the Laser Cutter at the Lacey MakerSpace!

BASICS: Laser Cutter with instructors Dan Neelands and/or Eve Ragins

A laser cutter uses a high-powered, focused laser beam to precisely cut, engrave, or mark materials—such as wood and acrylic. Controlled by a computer (CNC), it moves with high accuracy to create complex shapes, intricate designs, or surface markings. In this BASICS course attendees will learn how to use LightBurn Software to engrave and cut a coaster using the Laser Cutter.

This Basics series class is one to one and a half hours long and cover basic safety and operations of tool and equipment instruction. Successful completion of this course will qualify members to use the laser engravers independently at LMS. For more in-depth project based hands-on instruction, we offer workshops and one-on-one mentoring.

Basic classes are always free for makerspace members. Individuals are welcome to sign up for multiple Basics classes until they feel confident on the equipment.

There is a $10 no-show fee for LMS members who don't show up for the classes they sign up for. These fees will be charged to the card we have on file. This fee is being instituted because we have had a pattern of members not showing up to our classes. Our classes have a limited amount of slots and we want to serve as many attendees as possible.

Closed-toed shoes are required at all times at the Lacey MakerSpace.

Please familiarize yourself with our User Agreement and *Liability Waiver before class.

*Liability Waiver must be signed in person at the front desk before participating in any activities at the Lacey MakerSpace.

LMS provides all necessary safety gear, including safety glasses and other PPE.
