In this hands-on introductory class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Word and how to use them for real-world creative business needs. We’ll walk through the basics of document creation, formatting, and design while exploring tools that can help you create polished, professional-looking materials.
During this workshop, you’ll learn how to:
- Navigate Word’s tools, menus, and essential features
- Understand basic document structure and terminology
- Create and format documents from start to finish
- Add professional touches with headers, footers, images, and shapes
- Use spelling, grammar, and editing tools to improve your work
- Create documents that are visually appealing and ready to share
From business correspondence and proposals to newsletters, marketing materials, and creative projects, this class will help you feel more confident using Word as a tool for your creative business.
No prior Microsoft Word experience required.

Barbara Raymond
Barbara Raymond spent 30 years implementing and supporting human resources technology, helping organizations transform complicated systems and data into practical, usable solutions. Throughout her career, she developed extensive expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel by using these tools to solve real-world problems, simplify processes, analyze information, and create polished professional documents.
Now a facilitator for Create Appalachia’s AVANTE Creative Entrepreneurship Bootcamp, Barbara brings a practical, approachable teaching style (with a touch of humor) to Microsoft Office education. Her classes help creative entrepreneurs build confidence with essential business tools so they can work more efficiently and focus on what they do best.
