<h3>Target Audience</h3><p>Maintenance technicians, electricians, engineers or any others who are responsible for maintaining a safe and reliable electrical power distribution system in an industrial or commercial facility.</p><h3>Learning Objective</h3><p>At the completion of this course, students will be able to test the most common IEEE protective relay functions on a variety of manufacturers’ products.</p><h3>Abstract</h3><p>Protective relays are used for the electrical protection of distribution equipment such as transformers, substation equipment and electrical transmission lines. </p><p>Abnormal conditions, phase differentials, overcurrent and overvoltage are topics discussed for prevention of equipment damage and safety. </p><p>Understanding the functions of Current Transformer (CT) and Voltage Transformer (VT) ratios, polarity and operating principles as they apply to relaying are essential to the relay protection system and are covered in the course. </p><p>Various manufacturers’ relays will be used for a realistic hands-on reinforcement of classroom-taught material, along with demonstrations for the best experience and education. </p><p>Review of drawings depicting a range of complexity of relay schemes AC and DC will also be covered.</p><h3>Class Topics include:</h3><ul><li>Introduction to basic relays</li><li>Power triangle calculations</li><li>Phasor diagrams</li><li>CT and VT construction and connections as they apply to relaying and metering circuits</li><li>Relay test equipment</li><li>Understanding phase and ground short circuit, detection and safe clearing</li></ul><h3>IEEE Protective Functions include:</h3><ul><li>AC time overcurrent (51)</li><li>Instantaneous (50)</li><li>Undervoltage (59)</li><li>Overvoltage (67)</li><li>Transformer differential (87T)</li><li>Over frequency (81O)</li><li>Under frequency (81U)</li><li>Sync check (25)</li></ul><h3>Relay Manufacturers and Types include:</h3><ul><li>ABB CO</li><li>GE IAC</li><li>ABB CV</li><li>GE IAV</li><li>ABB CR</li><li>ABB Circuit Shield</li><li>Eaton EDR5000</li></ul>

<h3>Arriving at our Training Centers</h3><p><strong><strong>Gaining Access:</strong></strong></p><p>Upon arriving at our training centers, follow signage and any other directions you may have received before arriving for your event. Our staff will greet you upon arrival and take you to the appropriate training area. You will be asked to sign in for all events so that we can track building occupants in case of an emergency situation.</p><p><strong><strong>What to Wear:</strong></strong></p><p>Due to the nature of our training facilities and other events taking place, we ask that you wear business casual (or appropriate PPE if your event requires PPE in lab exercises) while in the facilities. Please do NOT wear shorts, open-toed shoes, or loose clothing that can get caught on equipment in the lab spaces.</p><p><strong><strong>Safety:</strong></strong></p><p>Our labs are working labs, as well as training and testing spaces. Equipment may or may not be energized with control voltages as well as three phase power. We ask that you do not open or operate any equipment within the facility without discussing with your host. Eaton staff will provide you with information on gathering points, as well as exit paths at the start of you event.</p>

<h3>Cancellation Policy</h3><p>Cancellations of In-Person offerings made prior to two weeks in advance of the first day of scheduled class will incur a 10% cancellation fee along with any incurred costs to date. </p><p>Cancellations of In-Person offerings made within two weeks of the first day of class will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
