Basic MIG Welding and Fabrication

Darrin caught the woodworking bug in a shop class in high school way back in the 1980s and he has been at it ever since. Once focused on only building practical, utilitarian furniture and storage shelving as he needed them around his house, Darrin began to appreciate woodworking more as an art form about a decade ago. He loves doing traditional joinery and incorporating it into classic designs, but  also he is looking for new ways to apply non-traditional methods including laser cutting, CNC and blending in other materials such as metals, epoxy and plastic to make wood pieces that are unique and functional. Darrin is also big on using and repurposing many small wood scraps that others discard. Much of his work is viewable on Instagram @darrinswoodworking

Dive into metal fabrication with this basic class that covers MIG welding and how to think about your fabrication projects. We will spend the first hour and a half learning how to weld, and the rest of class learning how to use basic metalworking tools, including a horizontal bandsaw, drill press, and metal shear. We will cover basic layout tricks and tools and then put our new skills to use by making a set of brackets you can proudly use in your home. This class is perfect for beginners and those looking to gain more confidence with their projects. Materials and a welding hood and jacket are supplied. Sutdents will need to bring gloves and wear close-toed leather shoes. Age LimitsMinors between the age of 12 to 16 are welcome to join but must be accompanied by an adult. A ticket should be purchased for both the minor and adult. Minors that are between 17 and 18 will still need an adult to sign a minor waiver form but an adult does not have to buy an accompanying ticket. Cancellation PolicyYou may request a cancellation for a full refund, minus any Eventbrite fees up until 72 hours prior to the event. Cancellations made after the 72 hour mark may be refunded in credit or transfer of class at the instructor's discretion. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or cancellations. About the InstructorCory Due is a Local 539 union pipefitter who loves learning and sharing with others. They have been welding since 2016 and are active in their local trades communities. In their spare time they love to garden, corral their many animals, and come up with more house projects.
