Basic Instructor Workshop October 21 & 22, 20222

The National Cued Speech Association was formed in 1982 to serve the needs of parents and special educators working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing. The NCSA is primarily an advocacy organization, and focuses on outreach, family and educator support, as well as community-based education in the form of Cue Camps and sponsored workshops.Cued Speech provides the foundation for language development and phonemic awareness that deaf children need for lifelong English literacy and for meeting success with hearing aids and cochlear implants.

The Basic Instructor Workshop is a requirement for becoming a certified instructor of Cued Speech.

University of Southern Maine

The Basic Instructor Workshop covers the fine points of Cued Speech as well as Cued Speech applications and many other topics related to Cued Speech. Seasoned cuers can use this workshop to stay up-to-date, learning where current cueing practices differ from their own, and those newer to cueing can use the workshop to reinforce and expand their Cued Speech knowledge. Requires advanced level expressive and receptive Cued American English competency.Some review materials will be sent to participants upon registration.Hours: Friday: 8:30am-4:30pm and Saturday: 8:30am-5:00pmThe NCSA awards 12 CAUsE hours to all participants who attend the entire workshop. Certification requires attendance both days.Safety: Every effort will be made to keep socially distant and spread out. If you are experiencing any symptoms related to Covid or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive within one week of the workshop, you are asked to not attend this event. Need a hotel?The NCSA has reserved a limited number of rooms at the TRU hotel (369 Maine Mall Rd, South Portland, ME 04106). We recommend booking your room soon to avoid unavailability. Rate: $209 plus tax.
