The Crime Reduction Institute will offer patrol officers, detectives, support civilians, and supervisors an introductory crime prevention course, which is the first of three courses required to get a TCOLE Crime Prevention Specialist Certificate. (40-hours TCOLE)

This course introduces students to physical security, information technology, and cyber security. Understanding the concepts of target hardening and security assessments is basic yet essential.

In part 2 of this course, students will learn the fundamentals of setting up a neighborhood watch program and coordinating National Night Out parties for their department. These two activities are the backbone of community policing and the genesis of grassroots support for the police. They will also learn about the Texas NNO book and how to foster better community engagement through these programs.

Topics Covered: Target Hardening, Physical Security, Crime Prevention Principles. Neighborhood Watch Train the Trainer, NNO Night Coordinator Training,

Materials Needed: Laptop computer, thumb drive, pen, paper, and a positive attitude.
