Basic Categorical Variable Analysis and Pivot Tables for Beginners

For part of our Excel series, Kristen will focus on simple descriptive analysis and data visualization using Excel. This webinar will be particularly helpful for analysis for reporting. This lesson is for those of us who can navigate Excel and write basic formulas but find ourselves manually counting or filtering to get the information we need. You will aslo need to understand the principles of tabular format and data cleaning. We’ll go over some basic analysis using a “countif” formula. She will walk you through making a simple pivot table and show some examples of visualizations you could make. Kristen will demonstrate how to quickly figure out the number, or percent, of each category of a variable, or more than one variable with a pivot table. Skills learned in this session can help you answer question such as: What number, or percent, of our donors are based in each state, and how do I present that in a visual in my report? How many people in my dataset are females in the 40-48 year old range? What percent of people in my dataset are in each ethnic demographic and how can I put that in a table for EEOC reporting?
