About this event

NOTE: FILMS MOVE TO FRIDAYS FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS JUNE, JULY, AUGUST

June 7th

We honor LGBTQ Pride Month with the Australian road comedy with a twist, “The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert.” Centering on two drag queens and their trans companion, the film charts their travels and travails as they meander across the outback in an old van. Oh, and by the way – it’s the van that’s called “Priscilla.” Oscar winner for Best Costumes, Cannes Festival and cult favorite, and surprise worldwide hit that helped bring LGBTQ concerns to the fore as the millennium waned, see it for all that – and the laughs. (1994 / 103 mins / Stephan Elliott, Writer-Director) Rated R; sexual situations with only implied nudity; recommended for 16+.

June 21

A couple of days after the fact, we’ll keep the spirit of Juneteenth going with the more-recent film “Miss Juneteenth.” Called “Filled with moments of searing beauty” by Time Magazine, “Beautifully spun” by TimeOut and “Layered and rich” by TheWrap, The story of a former beauty queen whose life didn’t turn out as planned, and who now pins her hopes to her rebel teen daughter who’s not having any of it, this seldom-seen little gem concludes the first half year of our film series in high style. (2020 / 103 mins / Channing Godfrey Peoples, Writer-Director) Not Rated; prob. equivalent to a PG-13 for a mild sexual situaion.
