Game Rules

  • This is a double elimination tournament. All teams are guaranteed 2 scheduled games.
  • Standard baskets are 1 point. Baskets made beyond the 21 foot (2 point) line are awarded 2 points.
  • A coin flip prior to the game will determine who gets possession at the start of the game. A possession change will occur after each made basket. The ball must be passed into play.
  • The ball must be taken back behind the 2 point line at every possession change.
  • All fouls and violations will be called by referees.
  • Winner bracket games will be played to 18 points or 20 minutes (whichever comes first). Consolation bracket games will be played to 15 points or 20 minutes (whichever comes first). In the event of a tie at 20 minutes, 2 minute over time will be played. A coin flip will determine possession to start the overtime. In the event of a second overtime a coin flip will determine possession and first team to score wins.
  • In the event that inclement weather occurs, games may be delayed, shortened, or cancelled or the double elimination format may be changed to single elimination.
  • Free throws: A free shot will be awarded on a shooting foul. The shooter will shoot a free throw for 1 point. If the shooter misses the free throw his/her team retains possession. When a foul is committed on a made basket, the offensive team will be awarded the point (or 2 in the case of a 2 point shot) for the basket and will shoot a free throw.
  • Bonus free throws are awarded once a team has committed 7 team fouls.
  • Each team is allowed one (1) one minute timeout per game. Clock stops during time outs.
  • Unsportsmanlike behavior by players, coaches and spectators will not be tolerated. Ballin' at the Bay reserves the right to remove any offenders from the current and future events. All decisions from referees are final and will be supported by the Ballin' at the Bay Committee.
  • A technical foul may be assessed for any misconduct, flagrant or intentional fouls committed by a player(s). A technical foul will result in a free throw and possession for the opposing team.
  • Alternating possessions will be awarded for jump balls.
  • No spectators will approach the score keepers or referees. Please see a Ballin' at the Bay Committee member with questions. Thank you for being respectful.
