About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Louisville Ballet believes that children should have access to high quality dance education experiences regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, or socio-economic status. Ballet Bound is a Louisville Ballet program that provides young dancers from all across Greater Louisville the opportunity to study classical ballet free of charge in a professional setting.

Ballet Bound is designed to build diversity in the world of ballet while also serving as a pathway for dancers to The Louisville Ballet School, Louisville Ballet Studio Company and eventually a career with Louisville Ballet.

In Summer 2024, Louisville Ballet will host a Ballet Bound Audition Tour in partnership with Olmsted Parks Conservancy. Dance workshops hosted at seven different park locations will serve as auditions for children ages 7-9 for the Ballet Bound Community Program at Louisville Ballet for the 2024-25 school year. Approximately 20 students in total will be chosen across all park workshop attendees to receive free tuition and uniform for one year to attend weekly classes at Louisville Ballet’s Downtown Studio Campus.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY:

  • Student age must be between ages 7 - 9 on August 1st, 2024. Students younger than 7 or older than 9 on that date will not be eligible for the program.
  • Current students at The Louisville Ballet School are not eligible for the Ballet Bound Program.
  • Placement Awards will be announced by July 15th. Please be sure to provide up-to-date contact information when registering, as that information will be used to notify participants chosen for the program.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Attendees will check-in at the start time listed for the event, and participate in a 1 hour movement workshop.
  • All participants must check in on site before participating - and stay through the full workshop - to be considered for scholarships.
  • The dance workshop will take place outdoors for 1 hour.
  • A Parent/Guardian must be present in the park for the duration of the workshop. Students may not be left at the park without their adult(s).

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR:

  • Clothing: Participants should wear comfortable and non-restrictive clothing and shoes that can be secured (no sandals or flip-flops). Consider lightweight clothing for warm days.
  • Shoes: Sneakers are best. No sandals or flipflops. Shoes must be secure to feet. Dance shoes may be ruined dancing in grass or on concrete.
  • No formal dancewear or dance shoes are needed.
  • Bring a water bottle labeled with the participant's name.
  • Sunscreen and/or Bug Spray are recommended.
  • Parents/guardians are welcome to bring a chair - seating / space varies at each park.

Frequently asked questions

My student won't be old enough - can we still attend?

Yes - if you are interested in the program, you are encouraged to attend for the experience. Underage students won't be considered for a scholarship, but you'll be on our radar for the future and you'll have the experience of the audition!

When and How will we find out if we made it?

Results are not provided until the Tour concludes at the end of June 2024. All families will receive an email with their results by July 15, 2024. (We will get it out as soon as we can!) Please be sure your email address provided at registration is correct so you can receive your notification.

What should we bring?

Your dancer and their Water Bottle (labeled with name) are all that is required. If you’d like to bring yourself a chair since you’ll be staying for the full 90 minutes, feel free. Sunscreen and/or Bug Spray are recommended.

What if the weather is bad?

We will email you with any changes to the email you've registered your dancer with. Be sure this email is accurate. We may relocate or reschedule, or we may ask you to come to another weekend date. We will be as accommodating as possible. We want to give everyone the same opportunities to audition.
