About this event

  • 1 hour

Dive in for a 60 minute immersive guided flow to focus, relax, explore feelings, and be present. This class teaches breath, posture, and energy regulation in an accessible format enjoyed by beginners to advanced practitioners. You may or may not break a sweat, but this is less about strenuous physical excercise and more about physically connecting into your body. Testimonials from recent class attendees:

“This was the perfect way to start a week."

"I feel so good! I unlocked the energy I needed ."

“After class I got my best sleep as an adult.”

“I feel so zen. My body went into a trance.”

Breathwork training is like a gym session for your autonomic nervous system, the part of you that is most tested on a daily basis in the modern world. During the flow we activate and train our body's parasympathetic and sympathetic response system, tapping deep into consciousness and using visualizations to make new connections. Over time, training the connection with our body and breath provides tools and habits to flow with life, so we can accept more and resist less. It's also highly effective for improving heart rate variability. My style of breathwork includes eastern and western practices that are designed for busy modern urban humans...delivered in a fun, energizing, and authentic space. The class is delivered following trauma-informed practices.

During class you can expect to spend about 50% of the time standing or sitting, and 50% laying down. Bring a cusheon and blanket or mat with you to class. If you're not comfortable sitting on the ground and need a chair, please get in touch with me before class so that we can accomodate.

25% of all profits are donated to Starfish Scholarships, which provides Middle School, High School, Technical Degree, and College Scholarships to financially disadvantaged youth in Juarez, Mexico. Learn more at https://epcf.org/StarfishScholarships

A note from your Advanced Breathwork Instructor (Brett Mackey): This class is a container for you to explore yourself in a fun, light-hearted, deeply meaningful, and trauma-informed way. Breathwork, meditation, and energy practices continue to change my life for the better, and I love sharing these practices with others. We're all on this journey together, and there is so much positive good we can do for Chicago by increasing these practices. Thanks for your interest!

Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

There is free onsite parking, as well as metered street parking and a nearby parking lot. The parking lot is first-come, first-serve.

How do I get there by train?

We are two blocks south of the Red-line North/Clybourn St

What do I bring to class?

Bring a small cushion and a mat or blanket. You'll want to be comfortable when seated on the floor or lying down. A bottle of water is also recommended.

What if I've never done breathwork before?

Most folks in this breathwork crew had never done it before their first class. Every time we gather, it is multiple people's first time. This is a great environment to learn something new that you can use outside of class, but not prior experience is needed.

What if I don't like meditation?

If you have tried meditating solo and not enjoyed the experience, you may find this different. We use techniques that help you clear away the outside world and focus on yourself. For the meditation portion you are carefully guided in a way that many people find easy and pleasurable to follow.

Can I bring friends?

Yes! Please do! You can share this Eventbrite ticket page with anyone.

What if I can't make it to this class, but want to be included in future events?

Complete this survey to get your name on the list for early event announcements. The survey also takes your input to influence where and when upcoming classes will be held. https://forms.gle/pff1ZyABaGcpzdqt7

What should I wear?

Any comfortable clothing is ok, but athleisure tends to work best. There is some movement and intense breathing, so breathable clothing may be most comfortable.

Do I wear shoes?

Shoes are removed before walking into the studio, and can be put back on when exiting after class.
