About this event

Join the editors at Broad Street Review for an updated session of our popular BAD REVIEWS webinar at 6:30pm ET on Thursday, July 17. This 90-minute Zoom class includes a Q&A with the editors and BSR critics Wendy Rosenfield and Alix Rosenfeld.

In an hour-long session, Alaina will explain why “bad” reviews are so important and what honest reviews accomplish, introduce the questions a good critic asks, discuss what happens after a "bad" review runs, and lots more. Then we’ll open the floor for questions.

This class is geared toward emerging and established writers who want to sharpen their critique skills. It’s a great introduction to BSR for anyone interested in writing for us, and it’s also valuable for arts lovers who want to dive deep into the life of a critic.

We’re offering this webinar alongside our beginners' session, Intro to Review-writing, happening at 6:30pm ET on Wednesday, July 16. Regardless of your experience level, you are welcome to join one or both. Taken together, they are an excellent connection to the BSR team and mission, and you will come away with a strengthened toolbox for cultural criticism and a deepened appreciation for the work.

Tickets are a suggested $25 donation to BSR, but there’s a pay-what-you-can option for those who need it. If you are registering for both webinars, the suggested donation is $20 each. The webinar will be recorded, so all ticket-buyers can tune in live or later, but we recommend joining us live so you can participate in the Q&A.

Everyone who registers for the webinars will be invited to an exclusive in-person July 24 meetup for BSR staff and writers, where you can meet our team IRL, share your ideas for coverage, and learn more about our community.

As always, Friends of BSR (our monthly donors starting at $5/month or an annual one-time gift of $60 or more) attend free! If you’ve been wanting to become a Friend, this is a great time to do it.
