Come learn how to compost your food scraps to feed your soil and prevent greenhouses landfill gases! This workshop is part of the larger Bread to Beer Food Waste Awareness event held at Crafty Bastard. 100% of proceeds will benefit nonprofit Nourish Knoxville's Gleaning and Food Recovery Fund.Workshop presenter Chad Hellwinckel is an associate professor at the University of Tennessee where he works on getting more people engaged in agriculture by increasing access to land and regenerative methods of production. In this class you'll learn the benefits of living compost and how to make it from kitchen and yard wastes while avoiding common pitfalls. Spots for the workshop are limited to two, 19-person sessions in order to maximize the information Chad is able to share. All attendees WHO RESIDE WITHIN THE CITY OF KNOXVILLE LIMITS are welcome to take home a City of Knoxville tumbler composter for use in their own backyard. Please note that like the City of Knoxville trash and recycling carts, these composters remain City of Knoxville property; if you don't use your composter please call 311 to have it picked up so another resident can use it.
