A BIO PIC FILM SERIES

***

5 INDISPENSABLE MUSIC BIOPICS

On the BIG SCREEN and in Air-Conditioned Comfort

***

8/25 – Selena (1997) Gregory Nava (127 mins.)

Jennifer Lopez is pitch-perfect here. And Edward James Olmos (as Selena’s conservative father, Abraham) is so good he nearly steals the show! In some ways, this is the model music biopic…a fact the Library of Congress seemed to recognize, selecting it for preservation in 2021and seeing to its 25th anniversary re-release in 2022. Experience this one on the big screen!

Abraham: “We have to be more Mexican than the Mexicans and more American than the Americans, both at the same time! It's exhausting!”
